Skeksi: Skek-Taru by EscapeDesignFX
Skeksi: Skek-Taru
I had the pleasure of building a skeksi for the Jim Henson Company and did it on national tv. I would never have guessed that I would be building an iconic creature in front of the very people that created these creatures for the Dark Crystal. We even had the pleasure of preforming on a set with the actual Dark Crystal. A three day build.

Hello all,
I apologize for my absence. This last year has been incredibly busy. The Henson show kept me on my toes this year...and intern, kept me away from Deviant Art. I hope to restore my presents here in the coming months. I appreciate all the comments and messages that have been sent to me, and apologize that they have gone unanswered. Keeping up with social media is difficult when you have a sudden burst of popularity. My focus became facebook, instagram, and twitter. That coupled with a comic con presents, work load, and so on caused me to drop the ball. Things haven't exactly slowed down, but I have been given an opportunity to regain a foot hold on other social media. To be completely honest, the busier the better.

For those who might not know, I was on a television show called Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge, which aired on Syfy. I spent a lot of time traveling and talking about my experience...within the confines of my contract. I've enjoyed meeting fans of the show and other creature designers across the world. Comic Con's have been the most fun. Its great fun meeting within a focused group of people who, themselves, are very creative. My comic con and show circuit schedule has suddenly compounded. Nearly a year after the show aired, and we are still going strong.

I hope you all will forgive my failures to respond to this point. I will do my best to respond to any comments you have. Of course, the best ways to contact me are via Facebook or email.

Escape’ Design FX was founded in 1996. In the beginning our focus was on costuming, but since 2003 EDFX has expanded our focus to special effects, props, and makeup. Though we have earned numerous third parting contracts on some huge Hollywood productions, we have always considered independent film as our mainstay.

“It’s a bigger challenge working on indie films. Anyone can create amazing films with access to huge Hollywood dollars; but creating amazing films with extremely limited funds shows incredible imagination and ingenuity.”

Russ Adams

EDFX founded Independent Filmmaking, an association of filmmakers catering to truly independent film productions. EDFX prides itself on creating high quality products to fit into indie film budgets.

EDFX expanded its view in 2007 creating an independent production company called Ritual Pictures, and in 2011 Kerr Clan Films, a stop motion animation house. Keeping its roots in the indie world is extremely important to us. As indie filmmakers ourselves, we know the struggles of creating something spectacular on a limited budget. We take pride in catering to those independent films budgets.

You're welcome! BTW, would you please give my sister a few tips about special effects design? She's looking to go to the Art Institute for it and possibly start a career with it and I'm not exactly sure what to tell her to start with, fundamentally. I know it requires concept sketches and such but I think they only have to be basic sketches, not exactly as refined as what an illustrator or character designer produces or I could be wrong. She's :icongreen-bullseye: I would appreciate your helping her get a good start and maybe showing her what to expect as a special effects designer.
